Over time the capitals of column grew to be much less intricate in their designs. This change is very obvious when comparing the corinthian and ionic capitals of the Ancient Greek to the more simple designs of the Byzantine capitals. This change in design is also seen in the overall design of the buildings in the Byzantine era. Though the Romanesque capitals are more reminiscent of the designs of Roman and Ancient Greek capitals. This “return to form” is also seen in the stylistic choices of Romanesque age architects.
