Labrouste’s Bibliothèque Nationale uses both classical and modern elements in its design. For classical elements you can see ribbed vaulting as well as the use of ionic capitals on the pillars. For modern elements one of the main aspects of the Bibliothèque Nationale was its pillars or more so what they were made from. These pillars were made from cast iron which made them much stronger than stone pillars. This allowed the pillars to be much thinner and not having to use as many which allowed for more space within the inside of the building.
