Le Corbusier’s philosophy of architecture consists of 5 points and the one I am most interested in is the Pilotis. Le Corbusier’s use of columns to lift buildings off the ground to support the structure and allowing the space below the columns to be usable was a revolutionary concept at the time. As a civil engineering major, learning about innovative structural elements is what I am interested in. The use of reinforced concrete columns, which are widely used in construction today, is another reason why Pilotis appealed the most to me.
