According to Professor Han, the Vitruvius Triad is crucial to architectural design and architectural history. If I had to rank the three qualities: firmitatis (stability), utilitatis (utility), and venustatis (beauty) I would rank them as such. First, most importantly, an architectural structure needs to have firmitatis qualities because it is critical that the structure can stand on its own for a period of time and that it is uniform in its design. Second, I believe a structure must have utilitatis qualities because for the most part if you are building a structure it needs to have purpose, whether that is physically or symbolically. And lastly, a structure can have venustatis qualities because of course a structure shouldn’t be sore to the eye and should great some sense of pride or evoke emotions when looking at it.
