The change in styles from Ancient Greece to Romanesque indicate a broad theme throughout architecture where designs peak in complexity and then revert back to simpler forms. Ancient Greek and Doric styles are known for their simplicity, in these cases, capitals are very basic and do not have many ornament features. In the later Romanesque, we see very abstracted styles such as examples of Corinthian capitals with mini volutes on the Abbey Church of Sainte-Foy in France. In this church, there were also more of these capitals to add further complexity due to clustered columns.
