Greek capitals started simple and became ornamented and more varied. The style changes take influence from virtues of relevant gods and goddesses. The Roman orders show that Roman style was more ornamented and varied compared to Greek orders. The Byzantine capitals don’t have order and are varied, representing the stylistic experimentation in the period, distinct from the Greeks and Romans. The Romanesque brings back the influences of Roman architecture and we see capital designs that are derived from Roman orders, as the hub of the Romanesque was in Rome. Romanesque architectural style represents the return to stability during this period.
