Week 2 Response

In class we mentioned that there are 3 big indicators between periods: date, place and style. As far as style goes, in the Romanesque time period, things were more bulky and the massiveness of objects were intended to portray strength of religion and appear fortress like. Applying this to the design of capitals, the capitals became less intricate as we move from Ancient Greece to the Romanesque period . I believe this was as a result of the buildings portraying more strength, there was less emphasis on the design of capitals and more on the building and firmitatis.
