In Ancient Greece, capitals of columns were more intricate with decorative features such as volutes which represented wisdom or ecampus leaves. The intricate features were used to distinguish the orders of Greek Architecture. This differs from the Romanesque capitals which were straightforward with no design. This represents the shift from detail oriented structures to structures that are fortress-like and look stronger in a sense.
