From Greece to Rome, Byzantine and then to after Antiquity (Romanesque), the capitals of architecture evolved and became more ornamented. For example, in Greek time, capital of Doric order is simple and not decorated. Compared to capitals of Ionic order in Greek time, those in Roman time are more heavily adorned. This change shows that the artistic quality of an architecture is becoming more important in the three principles of Vitruvian Triad. In Byzantine times, capitals experienced changing styles, which indicates that the flourishing of different kinds of design is being accepted by the mass. Romanesque is similar to Roman Style. In this time period, more building techniques and designs emerged so decorations were intricate. The general change of style is that capitals became more artistic and carried more implied meanings.
