Week 3

Gothic architecture developed from the Romanesque style. Romanesque architecture focused on massiveness to show religious and political stability. The architecture included semi-circular arches, thick walls, and arcades with rows of arches. Gothic architecture had an emphasis on the use of vertical lines known as verticality. Other key aspects included the use of the ribbed vault, pointed arches, and flying buttresses. Gothic architecture also made stained glass an essential part of the style.
