Strictly based on snap appearances, Gothic buildings are much loftier and more ornately decorated. Gothic churches have flying buttresses, and pointed (ogival ) arches. The stained glass windows seem to lift the building up into the heavens. Gothic architecture is associated with weightlessness, just think about Sainte Chapelle. Romanesque churches are heavier, and have significantly less light inside. They feature semi-circular arches, made by centering, or creating a mold out of wood to shape the arch around. The windows are small and the walls are heavy to show religious and political stability.
