Starting with Romanesque, they are heavily influenced by classical Rome. These buildings were massive and showcased religious and political stability. They had very thick walls and were fortress like. They are also known for their semi circular arches and groin vaults. On the other side, Gothic architecture was known for its verticality. Other key points were the ribbed vaults. Also the pointed arches compared to the semi circular ones in Romanesque. They also included flying buttresses opposed to attached buttresses. Most of them included a spire and had a focus on ornamentation and detailing. They included custard columns and stained glass.
