The Romanesque period expressed a style of strength by creating massive structures with thick walls, heavy buttresses, and semi circle arches. However, the Gothic period of architecture was more encompassed around ornamentation and complexity. The Gothic’s added finials which sat on spires, flying buttresses to support the structure, and ogival arches, and all of this added to the verticality the Gothic’s were trying exhibit.
