Romanesque style emphasizes massiveness to show political and religious stability. Gothic architectures are more overstructured, complex, ornamented than Romanesque due to improved masonry techniques. Gothic style emphasizes verticality by using spire on top of architecture and ethereal interior illumination by using stained glasses. Romanesque architecture use normal buttresses while Gothic architecture use flying buttresses. The arches in Romanesque architecture are semicircular while ogive in Gothic architecture are pointed. Romanesque architecture use groin vault while Gothic architecture use ribbed vault. The Gothic architecture even have fan vault, which is specific to England.
