The Romanesque and Gothic styles of architecture have many similarities and differences. While both styles were influenced by Roman architecture, they still differ. One difference is that Romanesque arches were circular while Gothic arches were pointed. Also, while Romanesque architecture are known for their massiveness to represent political and religious stability, and Gothic was more known for its verticality. Gothic also uses flying buttresses as opposed to Romanesque using buttresses attached to walls for stability.
