This image is a painting called The School of Athens, by Raphael at Vatican in the Renaissance period, a fervent period of European cultural, artistic, political and economic “rebirth” following the Middle Ages. The painting depicts many of the great mathematicians and philosophers in the spirit of rejuvenating Ancient Roman ideas of balance and linear perspective as well as truth. In fact, the composition of the painting itself is very symmetrical and balanced, following the key aspect of Renaissance architecture and relates back to the Vitruvian Man.
