“The School of Athens” by Raphael represents many of the architectural style and ideas from the Renaissance period. The painting takes prominent figures from the Greek period, such as Plato and Aristotle, and displays them to emphasize the rebirth of architecture that would revolve around math and science. To further emphasize the importance of math, science and Vitruvius’s ideas, if this photo was split down the middle, you would be left with to near identical sides which shows the value of proportion and symmetry. This painting shows that going towards a simpler form of architecture produced just as much, if not even more beauty than previous architectural periods.
