Week 4 Response

Raphael’s “The School of Athens” painting symbolizes the Italian Renaissance through itsĀ  marriage of art, philosophy, and science. To continue, geometry and symmetry are prominent in the painting. Squares and rectangles appear predominantly in the painting, and the semicircular arch also gives away the Renaissance architecture. If the painting were to be cut in half there would be two identical sides which also plays into the use of symmetry and math in the renaissance. Lastly, the painting looks as if it is returning to the ideas of Ancient Rome.
