Voyiazis – Week 5 Response

Compare these two works

These works come from the Baroque with Borromini’s San Carlo Church and Bernini’s David. Both of these works express the essence of the Baroque period which are movement and elaborate detailing. Borromini’s San Carlo’s façade uniquely captures movement with its flowing, curved entablature as well as an ovate interior dome with alternate ovate and cross-shaped coffers. Opposed to Michaelangelo’s David, Bernini’s David captures motion by showing David in the act of using his slingshot while fighting Goliath. We also see the more intricate detailing of a wrinkled cloth, a frustrated facial expression, and hair in a flowing motion.
