Caravaggio’s David is an iconic piece of art from the Baroque Period. It stands in sharp contrast to the more famous sculpture of the David by Michelangelo. Caravaggio’s piece is emblematic of the Baroque’s sharp break from the Renaissance. The geometric uniformity and stiffness from the period was replaced with an undulation of form and contour. This David tells a more emotional story. The same can be said for Borromini’s San Carlo alle Quatro Fontane. The building represents a stark contrast from the Palladian architecture of the past. The alternating convex and concave form on the façade and the ogival shapes signify that this building is clearly Baroque.
