The building on the left is Borromini’s San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane, and the statue on  the right is David, by Bernini. Both were done during the Baroque period and exemplify some of its key characteristics. Bernini’s David, when compared to Michelangelo’s sculpture during the Renaissance, shows more movement and emotion, and less focus on proportion that was important to the Renaissance. This shift away from balance seen in the David Sculpture is also seen in San Carlo, where, instead of perfect circles and repeated patterns, geometric rhythms were created using ovals and spaces and patterns contained within one another.
