I side with Protopiro for the fact that architecture is founded on simple principles. Didascalo emphasizes Piranesi’s beliefs on architecture which focus too much on excess and ornamentation. The deviation from the simple ideas rooted in Greek architecture greatly detracts from the utility that is also beautiful. While it makes sense that some can feel ornamentation makes architecture visually appealing, these parts of excess are where the building becomes structurally at fault. The austere elements of Greek-style promote not only clean design but are founded on rules that promote the stability and longevity of the work.
