“Who do you side with, Didascolo or Protopiro?”
I think that I would side with Disascolo on the grounds that architecture is complex, and to take a structure down to its most basic and asutre state is to take away the building. I appreciate his argument that each building is almost completely unique, especially in antiquity, because of the range of technology and craftsmen, and agree with the sentiment that there is a point at which ornamentation becomes excessive. I think that Disascolo represents a middle ground which appreciates innovation and development but respects simplicity.
