I seem to agree more with Protopiro’s philosophy than Didoscalo’s, on the grounds that I like to see the form of a building. I believe excess ornamentation can often be distracting and take away from the beauty of the building itself. The presence of clean lines and austere styles can be more elegant than ornamented ones. As Protopiro says, “A building laden with ornament is an enigma for the eyes, as a confused poem is an enigma for the mind”(Piranesi 3). This sentence is emblematic of my current view on architecture.
