Personally, I would side with Didascalo. Architecture is definitely a science and form of mathematics, but it is also a form of art and ornamentation allows the architect to be creative and freely display what they see as fitting with the overall tone/mood of the building. It is added beauty that boosts the aesthetics of the structure. On the other hand, I do not totally disagree with Protopiro, as simplistic styling and proportion have a beauty in their own. However, I believe that the ornamentation allows the architect to distinguish their work with their own personal touch, and it looks better to the users of the building, a win-win scenario.
