I would side with Didascolo over Protopiro. His ideas were based upon the Vitruvian style which emphasized proportion and simplicity. I feel as if these basic principles are vital to have as a framework for architectural design. Additionally, he had pushed the idea of ornamentation being novel and unrelated to the structure of the building. Together, his ideas are essential for innovating new architectural designs based off of principles from the past. Protopiro had a solid viewpoint of clean lines being important, but his ideas left minimal room for innovation.
