Labrouste’s Bibliotheque Nationale proved to be an important architectural structure and presented many different elements of design both modern and classical. The classical elements included ribbed vaults and domes. The structure includes modern elements like the cast iron used on the windows and columns along with significant ornamentation. Other modern elements include materials like plaster. The use of cast iron creates more space with the addition of thin columns.
