Labrouste’s Bibliothèque Nationale is an example of a structure that incorporated both modern and classical architectural elements during the first industrial revolution. Material in which the library was built signaled use of steel as modern building material. Iron frame supporting the roof structure with iron arches reinforced by iron made the building light and strong compared to stone building. Bibliothèque Nationale takes inspiration from the Gothic Period with its use of ribbed vault and Greek Ionic order with the use of volutes in its capitals.
