Labrouste’s Bibliotheque Nationale, a Beaux-Arts style, included many classical elements with a modern twist. The classical elements include: ribbed vaults, rosette windows, and the use of Ionic capitals and columns. However, this library incorporates more modern building materials with the use of cast iron and reinforced plaster. These classical elements were made of cast iron, which enabled architects to create thinner columns than ever could be created before with stone. Personally, I think they are very well intertwined in order to create a balance between the old and the new.
