Although France was known to duplicate other styles of architecture, after the french revolution, France wanted to reinvent themselves and the Bibliotheque Nationale by architect Labrouste is a perfect example of that. The classical elements include the arched domes and columns and not for the modern introduction of iron, the columns would not have been made thinner. Also, volutes for the capital of the columns represented the ionic order in which Labrouste was attempting to convey wisdom in his library. With the establishment of new materials, Labrouste’s inspiration for the Bibliotheque was that of a train station. Finally, the oculi in each dome allowed light to pass through.
