The Beaux-Arts Style as seen in the Palais Garnier uses a mixture of classical motifs. Similar to the Parthenon from Classical Greece, the basic structure of the building consists of columns, an entablature, and a pediment. However, the Beaux-Arts style becomes a more modern version of these classic motifs. For example, the columns are paired and do not follow the traditional orders, also there are oeil-de-bouefs between each pair. The entablature does not consist of what is recognized as the classical frieze and metopes, instead there are many additional decorative elements to it such as festoons and cartouches.
