The Palais Garnier is a opera house in Paris, France. When compared to St. Peter’s Basilica from the Renaissance one can immediately notice similarities. Such as the facade is the most dominating feature of both buildings. One can also notice the symmetry between the two. Additionally, the ornamentation is heavy on both but definitely more so on the Palais Garnier. The main difference between the two are the materials used. The Beaux-Arts style relied on newer materials that were inaccessible during the Renaissance, such metal and gold.
