The Palais Garnier is a typical Beaux Arts building because of its complicated ornamentation. It is characteristically Beaux Arts because it has a symmetrical facade, incorporates neoclassical festoons and cartouches, and has a heavy looking first floor which signified stability. In comparison, antiquity buildings, such as the Greek Parthenon, are much more austere; most likely because of the difference in building capabilities. However, similar to the Beaux Arts style, antiquity architecture also valued symmetry.
