The Beaux Arts period was largely influenced by Antiquity. Palais Garnier, a Parisian Opera House, is considered one of the most important works of the Beaux Arts, and shares some similarities with the Parthenon from Ancient Greece. Specifically, it contains large columns, an entablature and pediment, and arcuation (not seen on Parthenon but characteristic of antiquity). However, the Beaux Arts period builds on the basic elements of antiquity with features seen on the Palais Garnier like gilded decoration and more intricate carvings in the entablature, and Oeil-de-boef above the windows.
