Week 9 Response

The Palais Garnier in Paris is a prime exemplar of the Beaux-Arts style, as it contains key features of the period. It is highly ornamented, symmetric, grandiose (ex. the staircase), and of stone and iron material. When comparing to a piece such as San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane, which is highly characteristic of the Baroque style, a lot of similarities arise. Though the building itself is a modest size, which is quite opposite to the Palais Garnier, it does not diminish the grandiosity of the building. It is highly decorative and elaborate and contains baroque ovals on the ceiling, same with the Palais.
