The Beaux Art Style was influenced by both the classical greek and roman forms. This form of art dominated the United States in the late 19th century, especially in the city of chicago. The Palais Garnier is a prominent example of beaux-art style. The Beautiful opera house contains styles from classical rome. The beaux art style has a focus on symmetry, classical detailing such as pediments and columns, highly decorative surfaces, statues and figurines, and stone. In classical Rome, such as Diocletian’s palace. Both of these buildings use arcs. The Palais Garnier uses much less of this and also introduces the idea of using both rectangular and arched windows. The stone work used in both of these structures is fairly similar. They both also are highly detailed around the facade. The Palais Garnier in my opinion is a little more detailed due to the green dome on the top. The Palais also uses statues, large and gold, to emphasize their presence. The palace does not have any statues as it is slightly less detailed. Diocletian’s palace also contains columns from either the doric or corinthian period.
