Among Le Corbusier’s five points, the Pilotis appeal to me the most. Pilotis are pin-like columns that hold a building above ground level and bear loads, so that walls are not required to be load-bearing. It allows walls to be designed purely for space division and aesthetic purposes. Designers could have any ornaments on the free walls or free facades regardless of the limitations that load bearing structures may have. It would be easier for designers to alter or replace the wall structure easily during renovation. Pilotis allows the ground floors to be designed as open spaces for parking, which is really convenient for residents. In flood area, pilotis could fully lift the house and protect residents.
