I am attracted to Corbusier’s idea of Pilotis, as the Pilotis serves the structural purpose to lift the building from the ground that the rest is given with far more freedom, such as the ground and the facade so that they can more focus on the designation of the space without the worrying from structural considerations. I think Gothic somehow shared similar ideas with Corbusier, with its quintessential ogival, pointed vault, and flying buttress, indicating a shift from wall-based building in Romanesque. Thus, gothic internal space are given with more flexibility to allocate ornamentations with an ethereal atmosphere.
